Academics

The David Oyelowo Scholarship Program is more than just financial support; it’s a comprehensive journey of growth and development. Scholarship recipients are carefully placed in safe, high-quality schools across Nigeria. Every aspect of their academic journey is meticulously taken care of, from covering tuition and boarding fees to holiday lesson fees and even access to medical care. Beyond the traditional educational support, the program also provides social support and professional psychological counseling, recognizing that a nurturing environment is vital for these young minds to thrive. Every resource needed to facilitate their core academic development is provided, ensuring that nothing hinders their pursuit of knowledge and excellence. Partner schools, such as:-

  •  Fruitful Vine College, Ibadan,
  • Brightland High School, Enugu,
  • Lightway Academy, Abuja
  • Baptist High School, Jos, play a pivotal role in shaping the futures of these bright scholars.

Leadership Summit

The David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship Summit for Girls is a transformational experience. “You are valued, you are accepted, and you are important.” These powerful words formed part of the welcome address for the maiden edition.
This all-expense-paid summit gathers girls from across Nigeria, fostering connections and inspiring them to aspire for greatness. Through a combination of individual work, constructive feedback, group discussions, and thoughtful reflection, the girls spend these days challenging not only themselves but also the status quo for girls as leaders in the world. They discover their unique strengths, understand their values, and gain insights into personal and relationship health from successful leaders who have walked the path before them.
This summit is more than an event; it’s a catalyst for leadership and empowerment.

Capacity Development Training

Beyond secondary school and scholarship programs, the David Oyelowo Scholarship Program is committed to preparing its scholars for a successful future. To ensure that these young women are not just educated but also equipped to earn noble wages, the program offers online-based capacity development training. This training empowers them with essential skills, creating a strong foundation for their future endeavors. By the time they complete this training, the scholars exhibit proficiency with office productivity tools such as:-
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  •  Google Office (Docs, Sheet, and Slides)
  • Remote Team Productivity tools (Zoom and Google Meet)
  • ICT Skills (website development)
  • Organic Information Research (Youtube, Wikipedia, search engines etc) .

Also, ICT skills such as website development are also covered in the training.

This comprehensive training sets them on a path to success beyond their academic journey.

Internship Opportunities

The program doesn’t just end with graduation; it paves the way for a bright future. Upon successfully completing their secondary education, Top graduating scholars are strategically placed to work with local and international organizations. This strategic placement not only strengthens the skills acquired during capacity development training but also positions them for both work and further study. These internship opportunities are a stepping stone to a world of possibilities, where they can continue to grow, contribute, and excel.
Our capacity development training and internship opportunities are both the finishing processes that prepare our scholars for a young adult life of work and study.

Work and Study Initiative

We recognize that education is not just about attending traditional full-time institutions; it is about providing diverse pathways to knowledge and empowerment. This innovative program empowers our scholars to pursue higher education through part-time and online studies while earning an income to pay their way through universities. It involves an orientation seminar and a tour of the National Open University (NOU) campus in their state.

The orientation seminar features experts in part-time and online education, who will provide valuable insights into the benefits, challenges, and opportunities these avenues offer.

To inspire our scholars and give them a taste of the possibilities that lie ahead, we organize guided tours of the NOU campuses in their respective states. During these tours, they have the opportunity to explore the campus facilities, interact with current students, and get a first-hand look at the supportive learning environment provided by NOU.

Bilkisu, our first graduate, is currently enrolled at NOU, Abuja. This serves as a beacon of hope and a demonstration of the tangible outcomes that can be achieved through dedication and determination.

The David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship Program is not just about education; it is about empowerment. It is about providing our scholars with options and the tools to shape their destinies. It is not just changing lives; it is rewriting destinies and shaping leaders who will, in turn, transform their communities, their nation, and the world.
